Niwali Tejocote: FDA found toxic yellow oleander
FDA found toxic yellow oleander in two Niwali products labeled as tejocote. Check the exact lots, symptoms, and US return and poison-control guidance.
On September 17, 2026, FDA added two Niwali dietary supplements to its warning about products found to contain toxic yellow oleander. FDA says it tested the Niwali Tejocote Capsules and Niwali Tejocote Pieces and found yellow oleander. The recall notice says the products were labeled as tejocote but were identified as Thevetia peruviana. That is a serious mismatch between the label and what testing found. [1][2]
What FDA found in the Niwali products
The notice identifies two specific products and lots: Niwali Tejocote Capsules, 90-count, lot RM500925, best by 03/03/2028; and Niwali Tejocote Pieces, 90-day supply, lot RM400925, UPC 1 99284 23789 6, also best by 03/03/2028. The company says they were sold nationwide through eBay.com and Everymarket.com. It reported five units sold in total—two capsule bottles and three pieces bottles—and said marketplace rules prevented it from identifying every buyer. [1][2]
Why yellow oleander is dangerous
FDA says yellow oleander contains cardiac glycosides and can cause severe or fatal neurologic, gastrointestinal, and cardiovascular effects. The recall notice lists nausea, vomiting, dizziness, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and heart-rhythm changes among possible symptoms. A label that says “tejocote” does not make a product safe when FDA testing found a poisonous plant instead. [1][2]
What the notice does and does not say
The company said no illnesses or adverse events linked to these recalled products had been reported to it when its announcement was issued. That does not cancel FDA’s warning or prove the products are safe. The alert concerns the two Niwali products and lots identified above; it does not establish that every tejocote product contains yellow oleander. FDA says its broader investigation is ongoing. [1][2]
What US buyers should do
- If you have either listed Niwali product and lot, stop using it and do not consume what remains. FDA advises people who took any product in its yellow-oleander alert to contact a healthcare provider, even if they have not used it recently. [1]
- For a full refund, the company says to return the product to the place of purchase or contact Global Mix Inc. at (646) 419-5884, Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Eastern, or office@unitedlegalexperts.com. [2]
- If someone has serious symptoms, call 911 or seek emergency help now. For poison-control advice in the US, contact Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222. Tell the clinician or poison specialist the product name, lot number, and when it was taken. [1][3]
Our conclusion
We do not recommend the Niwali Tejocote Capsules lot RM500925 or Niwali Tejocote Pieces lot RM400925. FDA testing found toxic yellow oleander in products labeled as tejocote. The risk is serious enough to stop use and follow FDA’s medical guidance, even though the company had received no illness reports when it issued its recall. This finding applies to the identified products and lots; it is not proof about every product sold as tejocote.
